Kendo Seminar 9/26/2004 with Okutani Sensei

Okutani sensei took the time to explain kendo from the ground up.

During uchikomi keiko, Okutani sensei explained the importance of distance to the opponents.

Participants then applied their newly gained knowledge through kihon in bogu.

During lunchtime, Okutani sensei and Schleyer sensei demonstrated kata.

Smith sensei, the martial arts coordinator for the University of Pittsburgh, expressed the gratitude of the Kendo Dojo and its members when he offered a small token of appreciation.

Participants expressed their heartfelt thanks at the end of the practice.

Okutani sensei speaks with Yang sensei, who returned to Hongkong in late 2006.

The seminar attendees came away with a new appreciation of kendo after Okutani sensei's teachings.

Shoji Okutani sensei, 6th dan. He is the founder and chief instructor of Tan Shin Kai Kendo Dojo in Philadelphia, and trained Schleyer sensei.
