Sometimes, the dojo practices are moved outdoors. The uneven ground challenges students' sense of balance.

Practicing outside refreshes the mind as well as the body.

Even at higher levels, conscientious and constant practice of kihon remains a necessity.

In May 2005, Schleyer sensei visited the Würzburg Kendo Dojo, which is close to his hometown in Lower Franconia, Germany.
